Learning Hub (5-12)

Learning, friendships and plenty of room to be a child.

Tuesdays & Thursdays | 9.30am–3pm

Welcome to Learning Hub

Learning Hub is our small learning community for children aged 5–12.

There is structure and purposeful learning to our days, but it doesn't all happen sitting at a desk.

Children might be working on English or maths, getting stuck into a project, cooking, creating something, playing sport or spending the afternoon outdoors at Forest School.

We also work with external facilitators who bring different skills, activities and experiences into the Hub throughout the year.

And because a five-year-old and an eleven-year-old need very different things, we don't expect everyone to do exactly the same thing in exactly the same way.

Which age is your child?

Age 5–9

For our younger children, learning is active, varied and often hands-on.

English and maths sit alongside projects and wider learning, art, cooking, games, sport, outdoor learning and lots of opportunities to explore, make, investigate and ask questions.

There's also plenty of time for the other important stuff - playing, making friends, working things out together and growing in confidence.

Age 9-12

Our Middlies are an important group within Learning Hub in their own right.

They spend parts of their days with the wider Learning Hub community, but also have dedicated time with their own facilitator, allowing learning, projects and activities to be pitched more towards their age and abilities.

As they get older, we can introduce more independence, responsibility and challenge while they still have the familiarity and support of Learning Hub.

It also creates a natural bridge towards Teen Hub. Children usually start to move across during the term they turn 12 or the September afterwards, depending on the individual child.

What might a week include?

Tuesday afternoons are Forest School afternoons

Every Tuesday afternoon our children head into our own dedicated Forest School area.

It's not an occasional treat or add-on, it's part of our regular Learning Hub week.

It's a chance to get outside, explore, create, solve problems, work together, learn about the natural world, develop practical skills and enjoy a bit of freedom and adventure.

And yes, getting muddy is fairly standard!

Other regular activities:

• Personal Projects • Cooking • Art & Creativity • Science • Sport • Outdoor Learning • Games • Visiting Facilitators • Time with Friends • Trips • Music

Not everything happens every week, and that's rather the point.

We can bring in new ideas, follow projects in different directions and give children a broad range of experiences across the year.

Learning Hub is deliberately small.

It gives our team the chance to actually get to know the children - what interests them, what they find difficult, when they need a little encouragement, when something needs approaching differently and when they're ready for more challenge.

Being child-centred doesn't mean children are never expected to do difficult things.

We want them to learn, practise, persevere, discover what they're capable of and make progress, with adults around them who understand that the route there won't look exactly the same for every child.

Take a look for yourself.
